Hampton Woman Arrested On Aggravated DUI Charge After Crash

HAMPTON, NH — A woman from Hampton was arrested on a felony aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs charge after a crash on Winnacunnet Road on Aug. 30.

Police were sent to a report of a pedestrian who was down on the ground after being struck by a motorist around 9:30 p.m. The crash was near the road’s intersection with Towle Avenue.

The pedestrian was treated and taken by Hampton firefighters to the hospital with “apparent serious bodily injuries,” Capt. Anthony Azarian of the Hampton Police Department said. The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit was requested. During the investigation, “officers formulated probable cause” to arrest Karen A. Haraden, 59, of Hampton, who was driving at the time of the accident, on the charge.

Azarian said she was booked and released on personal recognizance but transferred to the Rockingham County Jail under protective custody. She is due in Rockingham County Superior Court for arraignment Oct. 5.

“All aspects of this crash remain under investigation,” Azarian said, and as such, limited information is being released at this time.”
