Here are the top three stories in Manchester today:

  1. Manchester police announced that they believe that everyone involved in the Apr. 4 fatal shooting has been identified and there is no threat to the public. Just after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Manchester Police Department's gunshot-detection technology reported gunfire at 245 Union Street. According to investigators, 43-year-old Rodney Yancey was fatally shot in the chest and abdomen at a multifamily residence on Bell Street. Police believe the shooter may have been acting in self-defense and are continuing the investigation. (WMUR 9)
  2. On Apr. 3, Richard Girard, a former alderman and school board member, announced that he will not run for Manchester mayor due to business commitments. Fellow Republican Victoria Sullivan, who lost the last two elections to Mayor Joyce Craig, will also not be running for mayor. Jay Ruais, a former congressional staffer, is currently the only Republican in the mayoral race. (Yahoo News)
  3. The closing of the temporary emergency shelter on Beech Street has been pushed back until Jun. 30. The Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA) approved a two-month extension to the closing date due to concerns that unhoused individuals would just be returning to the streets after the closure. Manchester Director of Housing Initiatives Adrienne Beloin said the added time staying in the temporary shelter would allow many of the occupants to find more permanent shelter and further stabilize their lives.
