Merrimack firefighters made quick work of a rooftop fire at the Skyline Mall on the Daniel Webster Highway on Tuesday morning.
At 8:52 a.m. Tuesday, the Merrimack Fire Department was dispatched to Billy’s Famous Pizza in the Skyline Mall, located at 380 Daniel Webster Highway, for a reported fire on the roof.
Merrimack Engines 1 and 2, Ambulance 1, Assistant Fire Chief Richard Pierson, Assistant Fire Chief Brian Borneman and Fire Marshal John Manuele responded. Engine 1 was on scene by 8:56 a.m. and crews observed smoke from the roof and light smoke filling the restaurant. Engine 1’s crew quickly laddered the roof and found a fire in a propane fueled rooftop heating unit.
The crew was able to extinguish the fire before it could spread to the roof. The fire was declared under control at 9:02 a.m. and crews vented the building of smoke. Merrimack Health Inspector Al Turner responded and determined that there were no health hazards or contamination and that the restaurant could remain in operation.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunction in a rooftop heating unit. There were no injuries and the restaurant is open for business. All units cleared the scene by 9:28 a.m.
