Man In Water Retrieving Radio-Controlled Boat In Merrimack Rescued By Fisherman

Fire and police responded to Wasserman Park for a report of a possible drowning Monday; a bystander jumped into the water to save the man.

MERRIMACK, NH — Merrimack Fire Rescue and police received a call Monday for a possible drowning at Wasserman Park.

While en route, dispatchers updated the responder that two men may be involved in the incident. When police arrived, they found two men who were out of the water, and both were wet but conscious, breathing, and alert. Firefighters arrived and evaluated both men at the scene, and neither wanted to be transported to the hospital.

According to sources at the scene, a man was operating a radio-controlled boat in the water when it flipped over. The man walked into the water to retrieve the boat and became distressed in the water.

A fisherman on a dock nearby witnessed what was happening and jumped in the water to rescue the man and bring him to shore.

The man who went in the water for the boat was given a blanket to warm up and was brought to an ambulance at the scene. After evaluation, he refused medical transport, which was against medical advice.
