Merrimack High School Top 10: Sophia Desilets, No. 1

MERRIMACK, NH — Sophia Desilets is proud to be the Valedictorian of the Class of 2023.

Sophia would like to thank her incredible family, friends, mentors, and teachers who have helped her learn and grow into the person she is today. She could not have done it without the strength of the support system that surrounds her.

Sophia discovered a passion for math and science at a young age. Some of her favorite classes at MHS include Honors Biology, Honors Pre-AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, and AP Calculus. In 2020, she was recognized with the MHS Freshman Math Award, and she was a finalist in the National History Day competition. She is a member of the National Honors Society and a proud member of the MHS Choir, where she served 2 years as the soprano section leader.

Sophia’s greatest passion is musical theater. She is honored to have performed as a professional actor in multiple productions at the Palace Theatre in Manchester while still in high school. She is a dedicated member of the Palace Teen Company, where she has won several Palace Youth Theatre Professionalism awards and spent countless hours training. Her favorite credits at the Palace include Velma Kelly in Chicago, Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins, Heather Chandler in Heathers the Musical, and Sherrie in Rock of Ages to name a few.

In addition, Sophia loves mentoring younger performers as an assistant dance teacher for 3–5-year-olds and as a junior counselor at the Palace’s youth summer theater camp. Outside of school and theater, Sophia loves reading, fashion, spending time with her family and friends, exercising, and watching rom-coms.

Sophia is honored to be attending the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater this fall.

Sophia would like to congratulate the Class of 2023, and she cannot wait to see what everyone will accomplish!
