📰 News we're reading

1. Mushrooms Could Help Address Merrimack's PFAS Problem (goodmenproject.com) — Merrimack residents facing long-running PFAS contamination near the former Saint-Gobain plant may soon see an unusual cleanup test: mushrooms. Local resident Angela Graves is working with state regulators on a small mycoremediation pilot that could offer a more natural, affordable way to reduce PFOA in contaminated soils and ease health and water concerns over time.

2. State says pain and addiction centers shut abruptly, patients denied access to medical records (concordmonitor.com) — If you were a patient at a pain or addiction clinic in Merrimack, the state says the operator abruptly shut locations and left people without records or care. New Hampshire’s Attorney General has gone to court, a receiver now controls the business, and patients can request their medical records and file complaints through published phone numbers and email contacts.

3. BAE Systems wins $16 million DARPA award to advance autonomous satellite tasking (spacenews.com) — BAE Systems will carry out part of a new $16 million DARPA contract at its Merrimack facility, supporting advanced software to autonomously coordinate satellite surveillance. While the work is national-defense focused, it reinforces Merrimack’s role in high-tech research and could help sustain local high-skilled jobs. The project aims to improve how satellites track moving targets without constant human input.

4. Newark's 74-Year-Old Anheuser-Busch Brewery Sold, Will Close in 2026 (tapinto.net) — Anheuser-Busch plans to shut down its Merrimack brewery along with facilities in Newark and California, cutting hundreds of jobs nationwide. The company says production will shift to other U.S. plants, and affected workers may be offered transfers or severance. Local residents and employees should prepare for the economic impact of the Merrimack closure in early 2026.
