Blood Drive: Help Lions Club and Red Cross Raise 90 Pints for 90 Years

Dec. 27 blood drive to help boost blood supplies in time for the new year.

In the fall of 1923 a group of Nashua’s most prominent business and political leaders joined together to charter the Nashua Lions Club. Now the second oldest club in the state (after Nashua Rotary) the Lions has returned over $1 million to the community since they began.

Over the years they have donated hundreds of eye glasses to needy children and adults, built The Friendship Club; Melanie’s Room and has supported numerous community groups in our city. For the past 12 years they have honored a local educator with their Teacher of the Year award and in 2010 began the Holman Stadium Sports Legends Hall of Fame in cooperation with the city.

As they conclude 2013, the club has joined forces with the American Red Cross and will be sponsoring a blood drive on Friday, December 27 from 12 noon to 6 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 2 Somerset Parkway. The goal for the drive is 90 pints for 90 years.

“What better way to end the year than by collecting the precious gift of life,” said Club president Elaine Lecius. “We encourage those who can to stop by and donate and help us help the Red Cross build up their blood supplies heading into the New Year."

The Nashua Lions meet the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza. For more information you can go to their web page www.nashualions.com or check them out on Face book or call 429-0561.
