Commuter Update: State Police Shut Down 293 N in Manchester

Seek alternate routes for those traveling north of the Bedford tolls.

Interstate 293 North in Manchester is closed for the next several hours after a tractor trailer carrying 9,000 gallons of propane swerved to avoid a vehicle which had spun out. The propane truck collided with the guard rail, jack knifed and went off the road.

According to photo journalist Jeff Hastings, who is at the scene, Manchester Fire Department has taken command of the scene and is requiring evacuations for a half-mile radius, which includes several large apartment buildings on Hackett Hill Road, Front Street, and Country Club Drive.

When the evacuations are complete the highway will be shut down for 6 to 8 hours on 293, both north and south bound, Hastings reports. The highway will be shut southbound at 93 and 293, and northbound at the Amoskeag Bridge, Exit 6.

The driver of the tanker has gone to the hospital for blood testing per protocol. The vehicle which spun out had people transported to CMC with minor injuries.

Fire units from Manchester are on scene as well as Bedford, Hooksett, and Auburn NH who are supplying water to the scene.
