NASHUA, NH — Without community leaders, Nashua wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

What does this community leader do?
Kimberly is employed by SMMA of Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is the president and founder of the Brian S. McCarthy Memorial Foundation, a member of Nashua's Great American Downtown, and serves on the board of the U.S. Green Building Council.
Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?
In March 2019, Kimberly established the Brian S. McCarthy Memorial Foundation in memory of her father Brian, a longtime Nashua Alderman who passed away suddenly. He was a computer software engineer. He loved space, astronomy, and all things science. She came up with the idea to have a scholarship in his name to keep his legacy going, to honor him and continue his work in the community.
The scholarships are for Nashua High North and South students going into a STEM field. Since 2019 the community impact has included $52,800 in scholarships, grants and donations, which have impacted 653 students. 14 Scholarships have been awarded, 28 community projects have been funded and 17 schools and organizations, including the Nashua River Watershed Junior Scientist Program and the Nashua FIRST Robotics Team benefited.
This was accomplished with a 12 member all volunteer board of friends and family (most of whom are nearly two decades older than Kim), which is a testament to Kimberly's dedication and passion for this foundation.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?
I am so proud of my daughter Kimberly's accomplishment. She has worked hard to get this foundation started and with persistence and perseverance has laid the groundwork for it's continued success in the future.
Earlier this year Kim was honored by Union Leader in its annual 40 Under Forty list, and as one of WZID's Twenty Outstanding Women. By continuing her fathers work and community service, she is not only a community hero but my own personal hero.
