
HAVERHILL, Mass. - Virginia (Jinnie) Hagemeister, 89, passed peacefully July 7, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.
Mrs. Hagemeister was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Grand Junction, Colo. She was the daughter of Bennet Crawford Allison and Eliza (Moore) Allison. Her mother was later married to Joseph T. Hunter of Greeley, Colo. Jinnie attended public schools in Grand Junction, Denver and Greeley, Colo. She graduated from Greeley High School in June 1941. Jinnie attended Colorado State College in Greeley for one year. She worked as a secretary for both Weld and Laramie County Extension Service before and during World War II.
On April 5, 1944, Jinnie married Lynn R. Hagemeister in Richmond, Va., where Lynn was in fighter pilot training in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Jinnie and Lynn adopted one daughter, Lisa Lynn Alyson, who presently resides in Kittery, Maine, where her parents also have lived since February, 2011.
Jinnie was a devoted Christian volunteer worker who brought her message, compassion and tenacity to a number of ministries. She was very active at the Nashua Soup Kitchen, Sheepfold Ministries and the Friendship Club, all in Nashua.
Jinnie ministered for over 25 years as a Christian volunteer in the Hillsborough, County Department of Corrections and the New Hampshire State Prison for Women, where she was twice honored as "volunteer of the year." Jinnie and Lynn were actively involved with the group, which established Christian Aftercare Ministry (CAM) in Manchester, N.H. CAM works effectively with men and women being released from jail or prison, helping them to put their lives together so as to become healthy, law-abiding citizens.
Jinnie retired from active ministry in the fall of 2010. Her years of faithful volunteer work were lovingly recognized by the staff and inmates at the Women's Prison in Goffstown.
Jinnie is survived by her husband, Lynn; daughter Lisa; niece Lacy Jackson; and nephew Benett Dixon.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at the Safe Harbor Christian Fellowship located in the First Baptist Church, 536 Union St., Manchester, N.H. There will also be a memorial service in the chapel at Meetinghouse Village, 143 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17.
It is requested that donations in remembrance of Jinnie be made to Christian Aftercare Ministry, 50 Lowell St., Manchester, NH 03104.
