Nancy's Diner Progress Report, Part 2
Nancy's Diner grand opening may be delayed until July 8.
Nancy Abreu was home making adjustments to the menu, while her husband was overseeing the installing of appliances.
Although Lenny Abreu still would like to stick with his July 1 grand opening plan for their '50s-themed diner, unforeseen hold-ups, mainly with plumbing, may push back the launch of Nancy's Diner by one week.
"Realistically, we may be looking at July 8," said Abreu, upbeat as always.
Outside the front window a crew from the city was digging a trench to work on a sewer line problem discovered a few weeks ago.
"Hey, at least they didn't have to dig up the sidewalk, or our ramp," Abreu said.
Abreu has been getting a huge assist from Mike LaVallo, his right hand construction man, who is also on board as head cook. LaVallo's wife, Katrina, will be head hostess.
All that's left is to complete the plumbing hook ups, have the kitchen Ansul (fire suppression system) checked, spruce up the place with the rest of the decor, wax the floors and set up tables.
"And the counter needs trim. We're waiting on that, too."
The restaurant has been a labor of love for the couple - Abreu says the diner is a true reflection of what they believe a good dining experience should be, and he gives all the credit to his wife.
"This is Nancy's diner. She is so excited for the opening, and to take care of our guests, the right way - service, to us, is everything."
