Nashua Police Officers Honored For Saving Two Women

NASHUA, NH -- Three Nashua police officers were honored for saving the lives of two women over the summer, officials announced Wednesday. Nashua Police Officers Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jonathan Turcotte and Kyle Ingersoll were award lifesaving commendation bars from the department. Fitzpatrick was honored for saving a choking woman; Turcotte and Ingersoll were honored for saving a suicidal woman.

On June 20, Fitzpatrick was conducting an investigation on East Hobart Street when he heard another man yelling for help.

"Officer Fitzpatrick also saw a woman clutching her throat and noted she was blue in the face and couldn’t speak," Nashua Police Lieutenant Kerry Baxter said in a statement. "Officer Fitzpatrick ran to assist and administered several Heimlich thrusts which cleared an obstruction in the woman’s airway."

Baxter added, "As a result of Officer Fitzpatrick’s quick intervention to clear the woman’s airway obstruction, he contributed to saving the woman’s life."

On July 6, Turcotte and Ingersoll saved a suicidal woman at the Water Street Bridge, Baxter said.

"The woman was visibly upset and rocked back and forth while seated," Baxter said in a statement. "Officer Turcotte and Officer Ingersoll grabbed hold of the woman when she attempted to jump from the bridge and pulled her safely back over the rail."

Baxter added, "The decisive actions taken by Officer Turcotte and Officer Ingersoll prevented the woman from jumping from the bridge and were instrumental in saving her life."
