Nashua Public Library Honoring Veterans With 'Salute To Service' Flag
The library is inviting the public to add photos or names of veterans to the flag. The veterans do not have to be from Nashua.

NASHUA, NH — The Nashua Public Library is honoring veterans this month with a "Salute to Service" flag that will include photos and names of those who have served in the military.
The hand-painted flag will be displayed on the main floor, and the public is invited to put a photo or name of a veteran on a paper ribbon, which then will be attached to the flag. The ribbons are available at the display.
The library said that veterans do not have to be from Nashua in order to be included on the display. Veterans also can include their own photo or name on the display.

If somebody wishes to add to the display, but can't make it to the library, they simply have to email the photo or name the library at librarymarketing@nashualibrary.org. The librarian then will add the name or photo to the display.
The library has asked that photos not be originals because they won't be returned to the contributor.

According to the library, the first veteran honored on the display was Larry Case. An army veteran, Case passed away unexpectedly this past April after serving as the library's maintenance supervisor for 33 years.
Holly Krump, the Nashua Public Library's assistant librarian of programming and marketing, painted the flag that is the centerpiece of the display. Krump said she was honored to be a part of the project.
"With each brush stroke and star I cut out, I found myself reflecting on not only the symbolism of our flag but the meaning of service," Klump said. "In particular, I thought of my own father, a Navy veteran during the Vietnam War, and the sacrifices he made for our country. I hope this display allows other families to take time to recognize the contributions of their loved ones and show them how much they appreciate their service."
The Nashua Public Library said it supports veterans and their families throughout the year by providing services like job search help, computer skills training and assistance in obtaining benefits.
Any veteran with questions about these services can visit the library, call 603-589-4600, or email information@nashualibrary.org for more details.
