Nashua Sex Offender Gets 2 Years In Prison

Thomas Hickey, who molested a girl in Florida, moved to Nashua "because he did not want people to know he was a sex offender."

NASHUA, NH — A Florida sex offender who moved to Nashua and failed to register with police "because he did not want people to know he was a sex offender" was sentenced this week to 27 months in prison. Thomas Hickey, 34, pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in federal court in Concord. He was sentenced Tuesday.

Hickey was convicted in 2003 in Florida of molesting a 12-year-old girl. He moved to Massachusetts and registered with police in that state but abruptly moved to Nashua in 2017 and failed to inform New Hampshire authorities, according to U.S. Attorney Scott Murray.

"Hickey ... admitted that he had moved to New Hampshire in 2017 because he did not want people to know he was a sex offender," Murray said in a statement. "By aggressively prosecuting sex offenders who fail to comply with their registration obligations, we are attempting to protect our community’s children from being victimized."
