Nashua Teen Accused Of Stabbing Uncle Repeatedly During Altercation On West Hollis Street
Devin Rice was arrested Monday after an altercation about a broken photo box between his mother and uncle, who was reportedly intoxicated.

NASHUA, NH — A teen from Nashua was arrested and held without bail after being accused of stabbing a member of his family, who was reportedly involved in an altercation with another family member, on Monday night, according to Nashua police.
Devin Rice, 19, of West Hollis Street in Nashua, was arrested on Jan. 5 on six felony counts of first-degree assault-domestic violence.
Around 9:45 p.m., police and fire and rescue teams were sent to a home on West Hollis Street for a report of a man who had been stabbed. While en route to the incident, police learned the suspect was Rice, a teen. When they arrived, Rice was outside the home, “covered in blood,” but had no visible injuries, according to an affidavit. The teen’s uncle, who was also outside the home, was seen suffering from “several stab wounds to the torso,” and had lost significant amounts of blood, police said. He was taken to the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for treatment.

A woman was interviewed and said she had been arguing with her brother about items in the home that had been broken. During the argument, the victim “drunkenly knocked over” some of the items. The argument eventually became physical between the woman and the man, who were grabbing items from each other, the report said.
“During this time,” an affidavit stated, “Devin emerged from his bedroom, holding a knife. Devin approached (the victim) and proceeded to stab (him) several times in the torso, at which point (the woman) called the police.”

Security video inside the home reportedly captured the incident. Officers eyed the footage, which corroborated the woman’s statement to police, and Rice was arrested.
Detectives spoke to the woman, who reiterated some of the prior information to police. She did say, according to the report, the victim had been “a severe alcoholic in the past” and also had autism, which is why he lived at the home with her. The woman also said the victim “may have been trying to choke her” just before Rice began stabbing the man, an affidavit said.
The knife was described as a hunting knife. She also gave detectives consent to search the residence and review the security video.
A detective also interviewed the victim at the hospital. He said he tried to step over a gate but tripped, knocking over a photo box and other items. The woman became upset, “as she does have a temper,” the report said. He went to fix the box, but she had already picked up the pieces from the floor, and when he grabbed the box to fix it, she began yelling for Rice, the detectives claimed he said.
The victim said Rice must have thought he was trying to harm her. While being stabbed, he said, he was unaware of what was going on and only realized it after Rice left the room crying, and he saw all the blood on his body, the affidavit said. The victim said he thought he was stabbed six times.
A doctor at SNHMC later confirmed there were six stab wounds, about 3 to 4 inches wide, on the victim’s back, neck, and sides. One wound hit a kidney, a report stated. Emergency surgery was performed on the victim later.
Rice was read his Miranda rights and interviewed, the report stated. He reported seeing the man’s arm in the area of the woman’s neck during the altercation, went to get a knife, and stabbed the man, according to the affidavit.
Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, police found the knife and seized it and took photos inside the home.
Rice was held on preventative detention and scheduled for arraignment via video on Tuesday afternoon.
