NY Man Faces 'Reckless' Charge in Congress Street Shooting

Police have charged Justin Morales in the accidental shooting Nov. 23 in which he injured a woman, and himself.

On Dec. 3 Nashua Police  arrested Justin Morales, 29, of 18 Vermont View Drive, Apt. 12, Watervliet, NY, in connection with a Nov. 23 accidental shooting of two people, including Morales.  

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 officers responded to 39 Congress Street, Apt. 24, for the report of shots fired. Upon their arrival they discovered that two adults, a man and woman, had been struck by one bullet as a result of an accidental discharge. Morales was breaking down a handgun which was still loaded. The weapon was fired and a bullet went through his hand and then into the upper leg of an adult female who lives in the apartment. 

Both parties were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The incident was furthered by detectives in the Nashua Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Morales, charging him with one count of reckless conduct, a class B felony. 

A class B Felony is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, exclusive of fines. Morales was released on $30,000 personal recognizance bail pending an upcoming arraignment in the 9th Circuit Nashua District Division Court.
