Overnight Parking Permits Now Available

Overnight parking pilot program begins Dec. 24 and runs for one year at a cost of $10. First come, first served basis.

The City Clerk's Office will begin issuing permits for Nashua's Overnight, On-Street Parking Pilot Program in designated locations within the city's downtown area, on Tuesday, December 24, 2013.  The pilot program, approved by the Board of Aldermen in October was amended by the Board on December 23.

The streets where overnight parking is permitted, and whose residents are eligible to acquire annual permits, are as follows:

Residents of 13 Main Street and Buck Street are also eligible to purchase overnight parking permits.

The maximum number of permits that will be issued is 400.  Permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible residents.  The overnight parking permit fee is $10, and permits will be valid through December 31, 2014. Overnight parking spaces are not reserved.  Permit holders may park in any overnight parking designated area.  Permits will not be issued for commercial vehicles, recreational vehicles, or boats.

On-street, overnight parking on designated streets, for any period of time between the hours of 12 a.m. and 6 a.m., without an overnight parking permit is prohibited.

In order to obtain an overnight parking permit, qualified residents need to bring a current New Hampshire vehicle registration certificate or proof of the vehicle's insurance at that residence and one of the following additional documents to prove that he or she lives in a qualifying residence: valid certificate of title; title application that is not marked "non-resident"; lease or rental agreement; notarized letter from a landlord at the address provided; mortgage statement at the address provided; any current utility bill with service at the address provided; property tax bill at the address provided; or government check, payroll check, payroll document, or employment contract.

Permits must be applied to the vehicle's window and are not transferable. Overnight parking is defined as the hours between 12 midnight and 6 a.m.  Parking in those spaces is not allowed during a declared snow emergency, and all parking time limit and meter restrictions, otherwise applicable to designated overnight parking spaces, remain in effect between 6:00 am and midnight.

The overnight, on-street parking pilot program is slated to expire on December 31, 2014, unless reauthorized by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
