Police Stop 99 Vehicles In 5 Hours On Everett Tpke. In Nashua On Wed.

The crackdown is part of Operation Commuter Shield, which is targeting excessive speeding, aggressive driving and other vehicle infractions.

NASHUA, NH — The Nashua Police Department on Thursday announced details of the latest crackdown on speeding and other driving infractions as part of Operation Commuter Shield.

The department said that on Tuesday, there had been a heavy presence of officers on F.E. Everett Turnpike in Nashua. During a five-hour span, officers stopped 99 vehicles, the Nashua PD said.

Police said that well over half of the vehicles stopped were traveling more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit of 55 mph. There also were three arrests for driving-related offenses.

Earlier this month, the Nashua PD announced that it had partnered with the New Hampshire State Police and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on Operation Commuter Shield.

During the month of October, the Nashua PD said the operation is targeting excessive speeding, aggressive driving and other motor vehicle infractions that are being reported consistently by citizens of Nashua.

The Nashua PD said these complaints have been voiced about infractions on some of the main streets throughout the city, including but not limited to: Amherst Street, East Hollis Street, West Hollis Street, Main Dunstable Road, Concord Street, Henri A Burque Highway, and F.E. Everett Turnpike.

During Operation Commuter Shield, the NPD said officers will be patrolling the streets at different hours.

"This operation will be conducted during all hours of the day and night and its goal is to shield the commuting traffic that utilizes the roadways within the boundaries of Nashua from unsafe conditions," the Nashua PD said in a statement.

On Oct. 5, the Nashua PD said officers stopped 147 vehicles in just over five hours on the F.E. Everett Turnpike. Over half of the vehicles pulled over had been traveling over 20 mph over the posted speed limit of 55 mph, according to the Nashua PD.

Then, on the morning of Oct. 11, officers stopped 139 vehicles in approximately five hours on the F.E. Everett Turnpike, according to police. The Nashua PD said that of those vehicles, well over half were traveling at more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit of 55 mph. There also was one arrest for a driving-related offense.
