PSNH Customers to Pay Less for Power

State regulators late last week approved the company's request to reduce its Energy Service Charge by nearly 10 percent to 8.62 cents per kilowatt hour from the current 9.54 cents/kWh. The power company had hiked rates back in January.

The decrease, combined with adjustments to three other rate components, will result in a total reduction of more than 5 percent in a monthly bill for a residential customer purchasing energy from PSNH and consuming 500 kWh/month.

The reduction in the energy service charge and a drop in the stranded cost charge will offset increases in the transmission charge, to support regional infrastructure improvements, and in the distribution charge, to provide increased funding for a storm reserve fund. 

With all the changes ordered by regulators, the monthly bill of a residential customer purchasing 500 kilowatt hours of energy from PSNH will drop $4.68 to $87.75.
