ASBURY PARK, NJ — Bruce Springsteen returned to his seaside roots Sunday night, when The Boss made a surprise guest appearance at the legendary Stone Pony music venue in Asbury Park.
Springsteen jumped on stage to join Steven Van Zandt, one of his original band mates from the E Street Band, for a performance. The two sang several songs including "I Don't Want to Go Home."
The Sunday night concert was a fundraiser for TeachRock, a non-profit created by Van Zandt and his wife Maureen to fund the teaching of music and the arts in schools nationwide. The Van Zandts run TeachRock through their Rock and Roll Forever Foundation.

People commented on Facebook they were walking past the Stony Pony Sunday afternoon and heard musicians inside rehearsing, but had no idea it may have been Van Zandt and Springsteen inside.
Springsteen started his music career playing gigs at the Stone Pony, and he would regularly show up there unannounced for shows, particularly on Sunday nights during the summer of 1982. This was after he released his first mainstream hit album (Born to Run, 1975) and two years before Springsteen released his mega-hit album Born in the USA, released in 1984.
