Barnegat Hydrant Flushing May Affect Water Pressure, Color
Barnegat's fall fire hydrant flushing program begins Monday and will continue for several weeks.
BARNEGAT, NJ — Barnegat’s fall fire hydrant flushing program begins Monday and will continue for several weeks.
Officials said the procedure ensures water quality, removes sediment build-up from water mains and checks fire hydrants for proper operation.
The flushing will begin west of the Garden State Parkway and continue east of the Garden State Parkway. A full list of streets can be found here.

The approximate time period for all hydrants to be flushed is Oct. 4 through Nov. 8.
The water department said residents may experience discolored water or low water pressure while flushing is happening. The water should clear up by allowing your tap to run for a short period of time.
