Barnegat Man Files To Run Against MacArthur
Martin Weber plans to campaign on veterans' rights and term limits in the primary race for the Third District

BARNEAT TOWNSHIP, NJ - Republican Congressman Tom MacArthur will have some competition for his Third District seat from Barnegat resident Martin Weber in the June primary.
Weber met the April 2 deadline to file to run the slot. So far he is the only Republican challenging MacArthur, who is seeking a third term, according to a report in The Sandpaper.
Weber was already thinking about running last year. But the death of his best friend and business partner Jeff Poissant to bladder cancer in November spurred him to file, he said.

Poissant, a former Army veteran, had urged Weber to run before he died.
“The veterans are not getting the care they deserve,” said Weber, a former Barnegat Township Volunteer First Aid Squad captain. “The congressman is supposed to be the first person you contact when you need assistance from the VA, but we hardly got any help at all. On the day Jeff died, the VA called to confirm an appointment for him for Dec. 22."

Weber will make veterans' rights and term limits the main focus of his platform.
"I think if Jeff had gotten better care through the VA, he might still be with us today," Weber said. "There is so much red tape, and I want to change this for all those soldiers who proudly served us today."
Veterans should be able to get medical care at any hospital or doctor of their choice, he said.
