Coast Guard Rescues Kayaker from Cape May Inlet Area

A commercial fisherman saw the man and the capsized kayak in the water and contacted the Coast Guard

CAPE MAY, NJ - A kayaker is safe on Sunday, thanks to an alert commercial fisherman and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The man was rescued by the Coast Guard's sector Delaware Bay after the fisherman contacted watchstanders by VHF-FM radio at 10:57 a.m. on Sunday morning, after he spotted the man and his capsized kayak in the vicinity of Cape May Inlet, according to a Coast Guard release.

Sector Delaware Bay launched a 29-foot response boat with a small crew from Station Cape May. Crew members were able to safely rescue the man from the water and transport him to Station Cape May, where he met local emergency services for evaluation

“If you see something, say something,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Sean Davis, watchstander at Sector Delaware Bay. “The quick response and communication of this good Samaritan helped save a person’s life. We encourage people to look out for their fellow mariners and contact the Coast Guard immediately if they see any signs of danger.”
