Fatal Parkway Crash In Barnegat Under Investigation

BARNEGAT, NJ - A Little Egg Harbor woman died Saturday afternoon when a vehicle she was riding in veered off the Garden State Parkway and overturned, a New Jersey State Police spokesman said.

The crash was reported at 2:26 p.m. in the southbound lanes at mile marker 67.2 in Barnegat, Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.

Joseph Lyons Jr., 77, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when he veered off the road and struck a metal delineator post. The car overturned and struck several trees, Goez said.

The passenger, Elaine Lyons, 79, of Little Egg Harbor sustained fatal injuries, Goez said.

Joseph Lyons Jr. was seriously hurt and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, Goez said.

State police are continuing to investigate the crash.
