Learn To Make Your Own Rain Barrel In Manahawkin

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Learn how to make your own rain barrel to reuse rain water with a presentation by Save Barnegat Bay.

The organization is partnering with Stafford Township for a free workshop to teach residents all about rain barrels. It's set for July 30 at 6 p.m. in Town Hall (260 E. Bay Ave.).

At the workshop, officials with Save Barnegat Bay will educate residents about the importance of rain barrels in the Barnegat Bay watershed.

These barrels help prevent runoff from entering into the Barnegat Bay. Collected water can then be reused to water plants, refill bird baths, wash cars and more.

After the presentation, residents will have the opportunity to make their own barrel to bring home and use in their own yards. A limited number of barrels are available. Attendees should be prepared to bring home a 55 gallon plastic drum.

You must be present at the workshop to receive a barrel. One barrel per family. The first residents to sign up will be prioritized in getting a barrel and you will be notified if you are on the waitlist. However, even if you don't get a rain barrel, you are welcome to attend the workshop anyway.

The workshop is free, but Save Barnegat Bay says donations are appreciated.
