Men In Fed Ex Uniforms Charged With Stealing Packages In Waretown

Ocean Township police accuse two men who did not work for Fed Ex of stealing already delivered items from homes

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Ocean Township police recently arrested two men who wore Fed Ex uniforms while they conspired to steal already delivered items from doorsteps in town.

Police had earlier received a report of a suspicious white cargo van occupied by two men at the end of Bryan Road in the Bay Haven section of Ocean Township. The van was later found by Lt. Scott Murphy on May 8 in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy on Route 9, according to the police department's Facebook page.

The preliminary investigation led to the arrest of the driver, Jomar Gonzalez, 28, Paterson, and Raymond Severino, 23, Bridgeport, CT. Both males were wearing FedEx uniforms and told police that they worked for the company, which was not true, police said.

Officers assisted by Detective Andrew Risden of the Criminal Investigations Division determined that both Gonzalez and Severino conspired to steal already delivered packages from the doorsteps of Waretown residents while they were dressed as FedEx employees operating a rented white van, according to the Facebook page.

Gonzalez was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, impersonation:theft of identity and several motor vehicle summonses. Severino was charged with conspiracy, and impersonation:theft of identity, police said.

Both men were processed at police headquarters, then taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in default of bail.

Murphy was assisted by Sgt. Michael Ward and Patrolman Philip Calanni.
