BARNEGAT, NJ — Barnegat Township School District officials are warning students against participating in a "disturbing" social media trend that's recently appeared in the community - one where people film themselves peeing in public areas.

"This behavior is completely reprehensible," Barnegat High School Principal Patrick Magee said in a letter home to families on Oct. 6. "It not only damages property but also creates serious health and safety risks for students, staff, and the public."

Police will be working with the district to identify any students who take part in this trend.

"Students who participate, attempt to participate, or simulate participation in this trend will face strict school consequences," Magee said. "These consequences may include suspension, removal from school, and referral to law enforcement for possible prosecution."

Even students who follow and share the trend can expect disciplinary action, Magee said.

"We strongly encourage parents to discuss this matter with their children and emphasize that online trends that harm others, break the law, or damage property have serious consequences. Together, with the support of the Barnegat Police Department, we are working to keep our schools safe, respectful, and free from dangerous behavior," Magee said.
