Stafford Township Youth Police Academy Is No 'Boot Camp'
Deadline to submit applications is May 16

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Stafford Township Police Department will hold a "Youth Police Academy" this summer open to Stafford students who will enter sixth and seventh grades this September.
The academy will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from June 2 through June 29 at the Stafford Township police headquarters on East Bay Avenue.
"The Youth Police Academy is not a "boot camp" for troubled youth, but a camp designed to operate like an actual police academy for those interested in law enforcement," according to the department's Facebook page.

The cadets will learn police procedures, law enforcement techniques, the history of the department, take field trips and tour the police department headquarters.
Cadets should be prepared for physical training as well as educational activities.

"We place strong emphasis on self respect, respect of others, teamwork and commitment to one’s goals," the post states. "This will be accomplished through structured events which will be offered in a fun, informative, interactive, educational and hands-on manner."
Applicants must complete an application completed in black ink and signed. They must also submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or principal.
Other requirements include:
A completed signed medical certification form
Civil liability form
Signed media release form
Completed essay question.
Applications must be submitted no later than May 16 to Stafford Township Police Headquarters at 260 East Bay Avenue, Manahawkin, 08050, to the attention of Youth Police Academy. Anyone accepted to the Youth Police Academy will receive a welcome email no later than May 21. The cost of the academy is $75, which must be made by check after the acceptance letter is received.
