Surf City Becomes The Latest Town To Ban Pot Sales
The Borough Council's vote was unanimous.

SURF CITY, NJ - This tiny Long Beach Island community has become the latest Ocean County town to ban the growing, buying or selling marijuana within its limits, according to The Sandpaper.
Borough Council members unanimously approved an ordinance that bans the sale, resale, purchase, acquisition, dispensation and cultivation of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, despite any action the state may take in the future.
That puts the governing body at odds with Governor Philip Murphy, who campaigned on making marijuana available for recreational use for residents 21 and older.

However, the Surf City ordinance does not forbid the use of medical marijuana for individuals protected by the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act.
Surf City joins other Ocean County towns in banning recreational marijuana. They include Berkeley Township, Lavallette, Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights, along with the Ocean County Board of Freeholders. Monmouth County towns with similar ordinances include Middletown, Oceanport and West Long Branch, and the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders.

Any person or business convicted of violating the ordinance within one year of the first violation will be fined as a repeat offender, according to the report.
