SUV Believed To Be Involved In Barnegat Shooting Has Been Found

Vehicle was found by Ocean County Sheriff's Department officers, Police Chief Keith Germain says

BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP, NJ - Ocean County Sheriff's Department officers have located the Honda Pilot SUV believed to be involved in the Barnegat shooting on Lexington Boulevard on Monday evening, Police Chief Keith Germain said in a Twitter post.

Officers from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, who were on patrol in the Forked River Beach neighborhood, located the 2006 vehicle wanted in connection to a mysterious shooting Monday night in Barnegat, according to app.com.

Officers Brian Gordon and Michael Schumann found the SUV at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of a residence, the report states.

The Sheriff's Office notified the Lacey Township and Barnegat Township police departments of their discovery.

Barnegat police received a report of gunshots in the area at 7:32 p.m. on May 7. They found no activity or a victim in the area when they arrived, but were able to determine that someone had been injured at the location, according to the Barnegat police Facebook page.

Stafford Township police later notified Barnegat officers that a 26-year-old Ocean Gate man was located at Southern Ocean Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

"At this time, the victim does not wish to cooperate with authorities," the Facebook post states.
