The Department of Law and Public Safety has released the latest crime data in its Uniform Crime Report.

The Department of Law and Public Safety today, April 17, released the 2013 Uniform Crime Report (UCR), which shows crime data for the state and municipalities.
Bernards had a decrease in violent crime in 2013 from 2012, the UCR said. The township, however, had an increase in non-violent crime in 2013, compared to the previous year.
The Department of Law and Public Safety’s report indicated New Jersey’s overall crime rate decreased by seven percent in 2013, compared to 2012, according to a press release from the department.

Bernards reported 2 violent crimes in 2013, down from 5 in 2012, and the violent crime rate per 1,000 people decreased from 0.2 to 0.1, the report said. The township saw an increase in non-violent crime, from 98 in 2012 to 121 in 2013. The non-violent crime rate per 1,000 increased, from 3.7 in 2012 to 4.5 in 2013.
