Bernards Health Department Offering Free Stroke Screening

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States.

The Bernards Township Health Department, in partnership with the Morristown Medical Center, is offering free stroke screening for people of all ages.

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of long-term disability, affecting millions of Americans each year, according to the health department.

The health department will run a number of checks during the free screening, including evaluating total cholesterol, total cholesterol to HDL ratio and blood sugar check. Participants will not needs to fast from food and beverage prior to the screening, the Bernards Township Health Department said. Additionally, blood pressure, pulse check and carotid artery exams will be performed.

The Morristown Memorial Community Health Department will provide clinical services and nurtrition and health information will also be provided.

The stroke screening is scheduled for Friday, may 15, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Long Hill Township Library, 917 Valley Road in Gillette, New Jersey. Pre-registration is required. To register, contact the Bernards Township Health Department at 908-204-2520.
