Pleasant Valley Piranhas Swim in Final Meet Before Champions Meet

Team moves into this weekend's Meet of Champions.

The Bernards Township Pleasant Valley Pool swim team, the Piranhas, hosted the last home meet at PVP on Wednesday night, taking on swimmers from Morris Plains.

The Morris Plains team tallied the most points to win the meet 230 to 192, although team mother Joanne Wachenfeld said she saw many of the PVP team members swim their personal best. With 154 swimmers, this has been the largest team for PVP, according to recorded statistics.

Wachenfeld said the PVP-related swim team program is a fun experience for the young swimmers, up to age 18. Her daughter, Amanda Wachenfeld, and another Ridge High School alumni, Tyler Gibbons, both are head coaches this season.

The team now has a record of 4-3 before moving on to this weekend's Meet of Champions, which brings together about a dozen swim teams from the area.

The Bernardsville Municipal Pool off Seney Drive is hosting Saturday's Meet of Champions for swimmers 10 and under, starting at 8:20 a.m.

The 11 and older swimmers are scheduled to meet at the Chester Area Pool at 50 North Road in Chester, starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
