Convicted Killer Can't Submit DNA Evidence in Bernards Murder, Prosecutor Says

Gerard Richardson hopes new evidence would overturn his 1995 conviction for the murder of an Elizabeth woman in Bernards Township.

A Somerset County Prosecutor refuses to allow DNA analysis to be submitted in a 20-year old Bernards Township murder case, which the defense claims will prove the man convicted of the 1994 killing was innocent, reported NJ.com.

Somerset County Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Van Hise said that while the DNA might not match that of Gerard Richardson, who was found guilty of murdering a 19-year old Elizabeth woman, the bite marks found on the victim matched Richardson.

Richardson's attorney filed a motion on Wednesday in Superior Court in hopes of getting his conviction overturned.
