County Residents Offered Second Opportunity to Dispose of Meds

The Somerset County Sheriff's Office is giving residents who missed the first meds drop-off event a second opportunity.

Somerset County residents who missed the first prescription medication drop-off event are in luck.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office is hosting another rain-or-shine drop-off event at the Somerset County Administration Building, 20 Grove St. in Somerville, on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will give residents another chance to get rid of unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs.

A sheriff’s officer will be present to college to medications. The drop-off is free and allows residents to safely dispose of medications.

“The purpose of providing this additional venue is to enable residents who could not make the recent medication drop-off, held along with the April Household Hazardous Waste event, to do so on the 25,” Somerset County Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano said in a release. “Prescription drug abuse is not a new problem but one that requires awareness and perseverance. Having unwanted, outdated meds in the home where they are accessible to our kids, their friends and even adult family and friends who may be privately battling addiction can be an unnecessary temptation.”

Medications should be dropped off in their original packags or bottles with personal information, including name and address, removed. The name of the medication, however, should be visible.

Needles and syringes of any kind cannot be dropped off and will not be accepted.
