Dive Into Summer Reading, Live Music and Author Chat on Wednesday
Next free concert in Basking Ridge anticipated for September; author chat on Wednesday evening.

While your student or students from Ridge High School (or you yourself!) may be taking a well-deserved break this summer, the end of July, which arrived Wednesday, might be taken as a reminder to tackle those summer reading projects.
Summer reading is an opportunity to stretch your mind and well as stretch out on a beach or couch. The choices, which are located online on the Bernards Township website, have some general interest topics that might fall through the cracks of specialized classes during the school year.
Each of the grade levels at Ridge High School assign one required book, and offer a few optional titles for second book.
Some, but not all, of honors and Advanced Placement classes at Ridge High School also assign summer reading.
The William Annin Middle School also includes a richly varied list of suggested summer reading for students entering grades seven and eight.
Deb Goetjen, Library Media Specialist at William Annin, advises that reading is "a wonderful way to exercise your brain, increase your vocabulary AND enjoy a great story at the same time! So take a look at the following lists of authors, books, series, and book trailers. I’m sure you’ll find something just right for YOU!"
Author of teen books grew up in Basking Ridge
Meanwhile, the Bernards Township Library, which has its own summer reading program is hosting at appearance from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday by the author of the teen book "Me, Him, Them."
Caela Carter — who grew up in Basking Ridge — will be at the library to talk about her book and the life of an author! Extra copies of this book are available in the Teen Corner for those who would like to read the book before or after the program.
The library staff recommends the book for high school students. Those planning to attend the program in Program Room A should register on the library website. The library is at 32 S. Maple Ave. in downtown Basking Ridge.
Lunch and Munch
Meanwhile, local residents were able to take a lunch break on Wednesday between noon and about 1:30 p.m. to hear music while you munch on the porch of Ridge Family Dentistry at 44-A S. Finley Ave. in downtown Basking Ridge.
The Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce and Ridge Family Dentistry arranged for longtime township resident Michael Andrew to set up on the porch of the dentistry office and begin playing at noon, to continue until approximately 1:30 p.m., according to information from the chamber.
Bernards Chamber Executive Director Al LiCata said he anticipates the next concert will be held in September. The first was held in June.
