Doon Indian Valley Restaurant Extends Sept. 11 Invitation to Police, Firefighters and Rescue Works in Appreciation for Service

Emergency personnel from Bernards Township, Bernardsville and Warren Township invited to memorial lunch.

Jasjit Bindra, co-owner of Doon Indian Valley Restaurant in the Lyons Mall, said he and his partner are inviting local police, firefighters and other emergency workers to a buffet lunch on Saturday dedicated to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

"We want to do something for the community," Bindra said of himself and his partner, chef Raj Singh. The free luncheon, scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. this Sat., Sept. 11, will honor those firefighters, police and others who died in the terrorist attack on New York City. But he said the lunch also is a way to show appreciation for "firemen and police who risk their lives every day."

He said emergency personnel from Bernards Township, Bernardsville and Warren Township, and members of their immediate family, are invited to the restaurant at 973 S. Finley Ave. Bindra said he is asking those who wish to attend to respond by Thursday by calling the restaurant at 908-953-2900 or by emailing doonvalleyindian@gmail.com.

The lunch also is a way to meet local police, firefighters and other emergency workers, Bindra said. He said he believes the invitation is a more personal way to show appreciation than just writing a check.

He said the restaurant has been open since March.
