JCP&L Calls In More Workers

The technicians will come from non-affected areas to help overwhelmed crews

BASKING RIDGE, NJ—Jersey Central Power & Light is calling in reinforcements. The utility, which has been working to restore power in northern and central New Jersey, is bringing in additional workers from non-affected areas to repair damage from Isiaias.

"An additional 1,300 workers will be arriving tomorrow, joining nearly 4,000 resources already engaged in the restoration effort," JCP&L said, in a statement Thursday afternoon. The company, which brought in 1,800 extra workers earlier this week, said the new personnel will operate from one of five local staging sites, making it easier to keep more crews on the road.

More than 4,000 customers in Bernards Township were still without electricity on Thursday afternoon, a portion of the 15,000 Somerset County outages.
