Lord Stirling Stable Offers Mini-Workshops on Horse Care for Both Riders and Non-riders

Workshops to begin on Sat., Sept. 18

Registration is now open for horse care mini-workshops for riders and non-riders to be held at the Somerset County Park Commission's Lord Stirling Stable, 256 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge. The program will begin Sat., Sept. 18.

The stable is offering Equine Mini-Workshop 101 for adult and junior riders seeking to gain experience and confidence around horses. The five consecutive workshops will include a combination of non-riding activities and hands-on experience with horses.

Classes are scheduled to run weekly from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. each week. Participants will learn the proper way to groom, tack up and safely handle a horse. Parts of the horse, saddle and bridle will be discussed, along with information on horse breeds, colors and basic equine care.

There is no riding involved in this program. Registration is available in person at the stable office and will be accepted through the opening day of the workshops as space permits. The fee is $55 for Somerset County residents and $92.50 for non-residents.

Lord Stirling Stable is situated on 450 acres with 18 miles of trails through woods and fields, one indoor ring, three outdoor rings, and an outdoor-jumping course. For additional information, please call Lord Stirling Stable at 908-766-5955. Individuals with a hearing or speech impairment can call NJ Relay Service at 711. Information on this event and other Somerset County Park Commission activities may be found on the Internet at http://www.somersetcountyparks.org
