Police Help Woman In Labor, Welcome Baby In Somerset County

The Peapack & Gladstone Police helped welcome the Borough's newest resident when they helped a woman in labor on Friday.

PEAPACK AND GLADSTONE, NJ — The Peapack And Gladstone Police Department helped welcome the Borough’s newest resident when they helped a woman in labor on Friday.

On Friday at 8:37 a.m., Sgt. Tom Scanlon, Det. Nick Ortiz and Officer Gino Schifano went to a Mendham Road home for the report of a woman in labor.

Once Scanlon and Ortiz entered the home, they went to the upstairs bathroom.

"Just as the officers entered the room, they heard a baby crying. A newborn baby girl was delivered within seconds of the officer's arrival," said police.

Scanlon, an EMT and President of the Peapack–Gladstone First Aid Squad, then helped the new parents with their newborn baby girl.
