BASKING RIDGE, NJ—After thousands of Bernards Township residents went without power for up to six days, enduring sweltering heat, humidity, and disrupted work days, the power is finally back on. Now, the question is: Why did it take so long?

"While I'm happy that power is finally restored," said a statement by Bernards mayor Jim Baldassare, "please know that we will be have our JCP&L representative(s) attending a public meeting in the coming weeks to give our residents a chance to ask their questions and voice their concerns."

Baldassare's statement comes days after freeholders in neighboring Morris County issued a statement to an angry public, calling the situation an "inordinate delay in reopening our roads and restoring power to many neighborhoods."
