Ridge Softball Advances in Playoffs After Shutout Win
Ridge girls beat Rutgers Prep 15-0 in game played at Pleasant Valley in first round of Somerset County playoffs.
Ridge High School's varsity softball team moves on to the second round of the Somerset County tournament playoffs at Mount St. Mary Academy on Saturday following Monday's shutout win over Rutgers Prep, played at Pleasant Valley Park.
Ridge's Marissa Dean, Christina Gambino and Kristina Mueller each collected three hits and scored two runs to lead 10th-seeded Ridge in a 15-0 route over Rutgers Prep, moving the team's record to 3-9 after that game.
The Ridge team logged a total of 16 hits in the game. Pitcher Morgan Derrick allowed only one hit for the win and her first RHS varsity win. Rutgers Prep, seeded 15th, fell to 1-6. The game ended with a mercy ruling after four innings.

The Red Devils next is scheduled to take on seventh-seeded Mount St. Mary Academy at 11 a.m. on Saturday, according to information from the team. The game will be played away at Mount St. Mary in Watchung.
