Ridge Spring Choral Concert Entertains Music Lovers

The annual Ridge High School choral concert again provides music and a final performance for departing seniors.

The Ridge High School Spring Choral Concert staged last week again showcased the work of various chorus groups at the high school.

It was also a swan song for some of the seniors who will graduate next week.

This year, the choral program graduated 42 seniors, 25 of whom were able to scheduled choir for eight consecutive semesters, said Barbara Retzko, choral director. Those seniors received the "four-year rose," a "small token of my huge appreciation," Retzko said.

The a Capella choir earned a first place, superior rating, and achieved grand champion overall she said.

Voices of Ridge and the Ridgemen each placed first, and earned a superior rating, she said.

The high school's choice also received the Esprit de Corps Award. Retzko said. That award is presented to students from a school who "demonstrated proper social behavior as well as musical behavior/encouragement. They possess the qualities of highly successful people who are sensitive to the feelings of others and applaud accomplishments no matter if by one’s own school or another school. Evaluation has taken place from arrival at the festival site to the awards presentation. All schools are eligible for this award, but only one group will have the honor of taking this trophy with them back to their school.
