Some Memorable Moments Caught on Video

October kept us hopping here at Patch, between the annual 1770s Festival at Lord Stirling Park at the start of the month, through a virtuoso performance of the National Anthem by Basking Ridge resident Marie Fosket at the Far Hills Race Meeting on Oct. 23. Throughout all, parents and sports fans kept busy with a packed schedule of games played under (mostly) beautiful blue skies, with some major mud that never slowed the action. Win or lose, the Ridge High School Red Devils varsity football team continued to attract a crowd on Friday nights. The games are always a social event, as well as a chance to root for the home team.

A major highlight was "250 Years of Memories" in Bernards Township, presented twice, on Oct. 15 and 16, at the Performing Arts Center at Ridge High School. The presentation included a staging of the historic tale of Mary Lewis Kinnan, the Basking Ridge woman who moved to western Virginia, only to be kidnapped by Indians in the 18th century. She eventually was rescued by her brother, and brought home, where she is now buried in the churchyard at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church.

October also was the home stretch for the November election.
