Teenage Girls Sustain Serious Injuries in Bernards Car Crash, Police Say

Police say it was just after 4 p.m. when the 2005 Lexus SUV veered off the road, hitting a tree.

Two 17-year-old girls sustained serious injuries on Tuesday after their vehicle struck a tree in Bernards Township, causing the roadway to be closed down for approximately four hours.

Police say it was just after 4 p.m. when the 2005 Lexus SUV veered off Lyons Road westbound near Knollcroft Road, traveling about 100 feet before striking the tree.

“The driver, who was trapped in the vehicle, needed to be extricated by the Liberty Corner Fire Company heavy rescue and was flown to Morristown Medical Center by NJ State Police medevac,” according to a statement from the Bernards Township Police Department.

“The other teen, in the back seat of the vehicle, appeared to have been unrestrained and was transported to Morristown by the Liberty Corner First Aid Squad.”

Both girls were admitted in critical condition.

Members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and the crash remains under investigation at this time.
