Unlocked Cars Targeted, Stolen: Bernards Police Logs
Three separate cases of burglary of, or from, cars were due to the owners leaving them unlocked.
BERNARDS, NJ — Here's what Bernards police have been up to for the past couple weeks, according to their logs sent to Patch. Charges do not indicate guilt.
May 27
Around 11:50 a.m., a gas station attendant at the Exxon on Martinsville Road reportd his cellphone stolen. While investigating, police charged Yasser Akasha, 55, of Altoona, Pennsylvania, with the theft.

May 28
Around 1 p.m., police responded to a vehicle fire in the 40-block area of Dyckman Place. Police arrived to find a 2014 Ford van on fire. It was put out, and there were no reports of injuries or any other damage.

Around 11:10 p.m., a Hillside, New Jersey man was arrested for driving under the influence on Martinsville Road. Police responded to a 911 call of an unresponsive man slumped over in his vehicle and subsequently arrested the man, Rodney Wolokolie, 26.
June 1
Around 8 p.m., three or four juveniles damaged the front door of a vacant house on Lyons Place with an ax. Police say the caller heard the loud noises and saw the kids at the door. The caller confronted them, but they gave her the finger and ran off, she told police. They allegedly got the ax from the house's garage.
June 4
Around 11:30 p.m. the night before, on June 3, a resident of the 100 block of Bernard Drive reported seeing two people in hoodies running up his driveway and checking his cars' doors. The suspects ran off when the motion detector light came on.
Between 8:30 p.m. on June 3 and 8:30 a.m. on June 4, about $215 was stolen from the concession stand at Ridge Baseball Club on Valley Road. The suspect pried open the metal security door. There have been other similar incidents in other counties, so police are investigating.
June 6
A resident of the 100 block of Victoria Drive reported sometime over the night their laptop was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in their driveway.
June 7
Between 12:30 and 6:30 a.m. somebody stole a car from the 40 block of Carriage Way. The unlocked car, in a driveway, had a key fob inside the thief used. The car was found, crashed, two streets away.
A resident of the 40 block of Tuxford Terrace reported two unlocked vehicles in their driveway were burglarized of $50, Air Buds and sunglasses.
A resident of the 70 block of Canterbury Way reported an unlocked car was stolen from their driveway, as the owner left the key fob inside the car. Police were told the vehicle was last seen in the Newark, New Jersey area.
