Belmar Man Gets 8 Years In Prison For Robbing Elderly Brothers

FREEHOLD, NJ - A Belmar man was sentenced to eight years in state prison for stealing items and $3,000 in cash from two elderly brothers who slept through the burglary, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.

Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley, who sentenced Andre Figueroa, 37, last Thursday, said Figueroa must also serve four years without being eligible for parole for the December 2016 burglary in Bradley Beach.

Figueroa had previously been found guilty on March 9, 2018 after a three-day jury trial before Oxley.

Figueroa was spotted by Bradley Beach Police Officer Andrew Redmond walking out from behind a residence on Bradley Boulevard at 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, Gramiccioni said.

He was wearing a red headlamp on his head and carrying a black bag. Redmond followed Figueroa and tried to stop him, but Figueroa ignored his commands and fled. Redmond captured Figueroa in the parking lot of Vic’s restaurant on Main Street after a brief chase, the prosecutor said.

Redmond returned to the brothers' home and found an open window with a fresh footprint. Police found the brothers, both in their 90s, unhurt and asleep inside. One of the men told police he was missing clothing, his wallet, credit cards, social security card, driver’s license and approximately $3,000 in cash, Gramiccioni said.

Police found the stolen clothing on the sidewalk containing the victim’s wallet, personal documents, credit cards and cash which had been discarded by the defendant during his attempt to flee, the prosecutor said.
