Berkeley Offers Free Batteries Ahead Of Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Savings Time Starts Next Sunday

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - The township is offering a limited amount of free batteries to township residents for their smoke detectors in advance of daylight savings time next weekend, Mayor Carmen F. Amato said.

“Berkeley Township will continue to offer, free of charge, a limited amount of of 9-volt and Double A (AA) batteries to township residents, the mayor said. "They will be available on a first come-first serve basis, while supplies last."

Residents are limited to two 9 volt and/or six double A batteries per household and must fill out a form to obtain the batteries. The batteries will be available to residents at the township Fire Prevention Bureau offices located on the first floor of Town Hall between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m on Monday through Friday while supplies last.

Clocks should be set ahead one hour by 2 p.m. next Sunday

"It’s very important that residents change their detector batteries every 6 months." Amato said.

The batteries were purchased with funds received by the township for fines assessed to violators.
