Berkeley Police Investigating Theft Of $39,000 From Business Safe

Someone cut the power to the burglar alarm source, then forced open the safe and took the money, police chief says

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - Berkeley police are investigating a recent burglary at the Eastern Metal Recycling Yard where someone forced open a safe and stole $39,0000 in cash, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Police responded to a burglary report at the business at 23 Double Trouble Road on May 18. Someone had cut the power source to the alarm system and entered the main office, the chief said.

The safe had been forced open and $39,000 was stolen, she said.

"Officers and detectives on scene conducted a canvass of the area and located several pieces of evidence to process," DiMichele said.
