Berkeley Township Farmers' Market Gearing Up For Year Three

This year's market debuts on May 30

The Berkeley Township Farmers' Market will be open before you know it. The Farmers' Market is no longer an experiment. Now heading into its third year, hopefully it's here to stay.

The market will still take place every Tuesday, but the hours have been extended by an hour, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Township Councilman Angelo Guadagno said.

It will open on Tuesday, May 30, with 10 vendors so far. The latest to join is the popular Empanada Guy, Guadagno announced on Saturday.

"Come get various empanadas for lunch or dinner with our new extended time to 5 p.m.," he said. "Don't forget about all our other wonderful vendors," he said.

The first year the market was held in Veterans Park, which seemed to be less convenient for customers. The second year, township officials switched it to the parking lot in the township's Recreation Center, which increased traffic markedly.

Township officials are still looking for more vendors for the upcoming season, Guadagno said.

"We need a food truck/lunch vendor and other vendors that go along with are natural, organic/GMO free theme," he said on the group's Facebook page. Please PM, email me at aguadagno2013@gmail.com, or call the Berkeley Township Rec Center at 732-269-4456 if interested. No old merchandise!"

The township started the market three weeks earlier than most other area towns.

"We did it for the exposure," Guadagno has said. "By Memorial Day, it should be in full swing. Please take the time to stop by."

You can also take a tour of the Berkeley Township Historical Society Building right next door when the farm market is open. The building, once the original Town Hall, will be open on Tuesdays all summer.
